Founders Mark and Nitayagorn ‘Tim’ Smith both studied at Bangkok’s well-known AIGS (Asian Institute of Gemological Sciences), where they received their Accredited Gemologist diplomas- Mark in 1984 and ‘Tim’ in 1987. Having spent over two decades honing expertise and cultivating relationships with sources and customers alike, Thai Lanka has become a strong and respectable presence in the South East Asian coloured gem market. As a small company, our core values include integrity and quality. We are truly passionate about the origins of our stones, supporting the remote villages and growing businesses that these mines allow. Mark personally loves travelling directly to the source, frequently visiting mining sites and local gem markets around Southeast Asia, and on occasion, Africa. We appreciate the long journey of a stone, from a rough deep within the earth to a shining jewel of adornment. This rare combination of raw passion and refined knowledge make Thai Lanka Trading a company to be trusted. Though Thai Lanka Trading is based in Bangkok, we do exhibit internationally throughout the year.
