Established in 1925, our Association iS formed bY gold and jewellery merchants. Gold and jewellery merchants in Hong Kong used to be independent of each other. At that time customers were often dissatisfied with the variation of buying and selling prices among different stores. To safeguard the reputation and overall interests of the industry, a group of foreseeing initiated the establishment of our Association. Together with the Hong Kong Jewellery Association, we regulate everyday prices for the buying and selling of gold Items. We also set up regulations for the industry. These measures are reasonable and are implemented by every store. Since our establishment, the healthy development of our industry has been guaranteed. With the flourishing growth in the early 80’s, gold and jewellery industry became the pillar of our economy. In face of this, the government determined to formulate regulations for the proper operation of the Industry Thanks to the strong support and assistance of our Association and the Hong Kong Pearls, Precious stones, Jade, Gold and Silver Ornament Merchants Association, the Government announced the “Product Description (Labeling) (Gold and Gold Alloy) Law” and the “Product Description (Labeling) (platinum) Law in 1984 and 1988 respectively. As a result, we can assure that the level of gold content in our jewellery is in line with that of the American and European standard, hence facilitating both internal and external trade.
