Giulia Boccafogli was born in Bologna, Italy, in 1980. After classical studies at the high school, she graduated in architecture in Florence in 2006 with a final thesis in Technology and Design. Since then she has worked as architect and interior designer but, at the same time, she has always pursued her greatest passion: jewelry designing and making. Methodical and willing, She feds her creativity, refining more and more studies on alternative materials and processes, without ever giving up the artisan craftsmanship, a crucial part of her creative process. From the 2006, this course has developed to the point of becoming almost a full-time work: participating in exhibitions, trade fairs (Macef designer club january 2008, So critical So Fashion september 2011 and others) and temporary stores (the most important, Urban Life Temporary Store, september 2010/february 2011, with COIN Group), her work has been noticed by the pubblic of lovers and insiders, with the interest of fashion magazines and specific web sites like Frizzi Frizzi, Glamour, Cosmpolitan, Marie Claire and Vogue Italy. During the same period she has started several collaborations with private costumers and stores all around Italy. She uses to design and realize personally her collections, using several different materials, even if one she prefers is the leather, deriving exclusively from unused stock funds. The 2011 has been a very important year: she has lived for more then four months in San Francisco. During her stay there she had the possibility to make a lot of research and she also followed many workshops about the metal working and the use of alternative materials in jewelry. When She came back to Italy she decided to completely devote herself to this marvellous world, putting aside the profession of architect and in July 2012 she opened, in the very center of Bologna, in via dell'Inferno 12/a, her atelier together with her collegue and friend Emanuela Paradiso, textile designer and owner of the brand Confezioni Paradiso. Since then, her work focuses mainly on the research of form and style, always with the artisan aspect in the foreground, experimenting new techniques about leather cut and working and new structures. From 2013 she has started to invest on professional fairs such as Macef, September 2013 and Homi, the new Macef, January 2014, September 2014, January 2015 in Milan. During February 2015 she exhibited her collections during Milan Fashion Week at White, selected to be part of a the special Bijoux Area, together with other 17 international jewelry deisgners, in via Tortona 35. In September 2015 Giulia is going to have the fifth presence at Homi and the second at White: a confirmation of the constant professional growth and the international diffusion of her work. During these last years she began also to open up the foreign market: thanks to the presence of portals and prestige as Boticca Wolf & Badger, has been able to learn about his work almost around the world and several boutiques abroad have already chosen its collections. 2015 is also a key year for the prestigious participation in "L'eleganza del cibo. Tales about food and fashion ", at the Museo dei Fori Imperiali: a great exhibition, curated by Stefano Dominella and Bonizza Giordani Aragno, for EXPO 2015, to celebrate in Rome the perfect combination among nutrition, main theme of universal exhibition, and the craftsmanship of tailoring of Made in Italy. For six months some exclusive creations of Gulia Boccafogli are exhibited alongside the works of the great masters of Italian fashion. Currently, her collections are distributed, as well as in Italy, in Japan, Switzerland, Senegal, Turkey, Mexico, Ireland, Australia, Austria, Colombia and others. In January 2015 Giulia opened her atelier in Como, Via Castellini 4 / C. One step at a time, along her dream.
